Hey everyone,
I want to give you a quick update on my life including: my experience with the bar exam, what I am doing now, and what my plans are for the website.
Bar Exam
After graduation, I took a short break to visit Florida before hitting bar prep hard. Getting away from the hussle for a week really helped me relax and recover (plus I had a great time at Universal (big Harry Potter fan)). Once I returned from Florida, I used Themis Bar Prep as my bar prep course of choice and spent nine weeks right out of law school studying hard.
Those nine weeks were filled with stress, worries, successes, and trials. One practice set I would get 80% correct, the next would be less than 50%. The constant fluctuation in performance caused pretty strong anxiety as the exam drew closer and closer.
Then exam day came.
Day one here is commonly known as “Essay Day,” comprising of the Multistate Performance Test (MPT) and the Mutistate Essay Esam (MEE). No need to go into the details of the exam, but I walked away feeling less than confident.
Day two is multiple-choice day, comprising of 200 multiple choice questions in the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE). I felt better about these questions, but, as noted before, my consistency on the MBE practice problems was never consistent.
On top of the exam day stress, the exam was on my daughter’s birthday and my birthday. Some birthday treat.
Then came the wait. Six long weeks of worrying, thinking about the questions, knowing I missed a significant portion. Eventually, the results came and I passed with with significant room to spare. My MBE scaled score was 159.6, while the scaled written score was 173.3 for a combined score of 333. In Iowa, a passing score is 266 or above. I share a part of my results here, not to brag about my performance, but to encourage you to be persistent, find a way of studying that works for you, and be confident in that method. Results will come.
Job
This section will be brief for obvious reasons that need not be explained.
Right after taking the bar, I began work as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Iowa Supreme Court. I will serve in this capacity for roughly a year.
Plans for the Website
Due to the nature of my job, out of an abundance of caution, I will not be posting anything on the website for the remaining year of the clerkship. All the current material will remain available. The purpose of the website remains the same, to help law school students find success in law school and prepare for the bar exam. I wish you good luck in that endeavor! For now, just know that I have big plans for this website in the future!
All the best!
Will
